  In Brookfield, N. Y., Dec. 18, 1907, Mr. Charles L. Clarke, aged 56 years.
Charles Lewis Clarke, son of M. Willett and Elizabeth Clarke, was born in Brookfield, March 5, 1851, and died at his late residence, Dec. 18, 1907.   Except for eleven years spent at North Loup, Nebr., and three years at Boulder, Colo., his life has been spent in this community.   He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Myrtilla Maxson Clarke, and three daughters, Mrs. Claude Camenga, Mrs. Silas Witter, and Mrs. Clark M. Todd; two sisters, Mrs. Geo. W. Burdick of DeRuyter, and Mrs. Jay Brown of Brookfield, and the aged parents who have made their home with his for the past two years.   In 1873, he was baptized by Rev. J. M. Todd and joined the Second Brookfield Seventh-day Baptist Church of which he has since been a devoted member, except for the time spent in the West.   He was a genial friend, a man of strong religious convictions, a keen student of the Bible, and a staunch defender of the Bible truth.
The farewell services were largely attended on Sabbath afternoon, Dec. 21, and were conducted by his pastor, assisted by Dr. A. C. Davis of West Edmeston, at whose church he was an occasional attendant.   The interment was in Brookfield Rural Cemetery.     W. L. G.

Myrtilla A. Clarke, the daughter of Charles Potter and Roxana Hibbard Maxson, was born June 29, 1858, at Brookfield, N. Y., and died March 26, 1921, at the home of her eldest daughter, Mrs. Florence Camenga.
September 12, 1872, she was married to Charles L. Clarke.   To this union four children were born: Florence, the wife of Claude Camenga, of Brookfield; Clarence, who died when fourteen years of age; Enola, the wife of Silas Witter, who died several years ago; and Ruby, the wife of Clark Todd, of Brookfield.   There are also eight grandchildren.
In the year 1879 Mr. Clarke moved with his family to North Loup, Nebraska, where they made their home until 1891, when they moved further west to Boulder, Colo.   They remained here for about two years and then returned to the old home community at Brookfield.   About thirteen years ago Mrs. Clarke was bereft of her husband.   Since then she made her home with her daughter Florence, where she has been tenderly cared for, especially during the last few months, when affliction came upon her.   In all her affliction she has proved her faith in her Savior and has born with utmost patience whatever she was called upon to endure.
March 13, 1875, she with her husband professed faith in Christ by baptism and in union with the Brookfield Seventh Day Baptist Church.   While living at North Loup and at Boulder she united with these churches, later bringing her membership to the home church, where she remained in faithful communion.   Farewell services were held at the home of the daughter Florence, March 28, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. E. Hutchins.   The body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the Brookfield Rural Cemetery.     J. E. H.
