Martha Elizabeth (Crandall) Wilcox 1867-1931

Mrs. Edward A. Wilcox, route 1, Lima Center, who died in Mercy hospital, Janesville, Thursday, May 14, was laid to rest last Saturday. Funeral services were held in the home in Johnstown at 1:30 p.m. and in the Congregational church, Milton, at 2 o'clock. Her Pastor Rev. D. Q. Grabill of Fort Atkinson officiated. Mrs. Mae Wilcox of Roscoe, Ill., sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "The Homeland." The pallbearers were cousins of the deceased - Willie Gleason, Urban Gleason, Charlie Kemp and Henry Kemp, all of Janesville. Burial was in Milton cemetery.
Mattie, youngest daughter of James and Sarah Crandall was born July 14, 1867, in the town of Harmony. She was married to Edward A. Wilcox on October 14, 1890, and three children were born to them. The past twenty-five years of her life were spent on a farm in Johnstown.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, three children, Mae and Sylvester at home and Clifford of Normal, Ill., a brother Jesse Crandall of Long Beach, Calif., and a host of friends.
Mrs. Wilcox gave her heart to God when a young woman and for many years was a faithful worker in the Methodist church at Milton. For the past six years she has served as faithfully in the Congregational church of Milton. She was a woman who was beloved by all who knew her. She found much time for secret prayer and study of the scriptures.
Mrs. Wilcox was a charter member of the Harmony W. C. T. U. and after it disbanded she joined the Milton W. C. T. U., to which she belonged at the time of her death.
