MILTON - Gladys M. Wilcox, 95, of Milton, died on Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at the Milton Senior Living Center.
Gladys was born on Oct. 5, 1911, in Fort Atkinson, WI, daughter of the late Louis J. and Libbie (Bliss) Fischer. She graduated from Whitewater High School in 1927 and then attended the Whitewater Normal School, taking the Rural Teacher's course. Gladys taught in Rock County schools for five years prior to her marriage to Sylvester E. "Sid" Wilcox on June 8, 1933. They were married at her parent's home in Richmond Township. He predeceased her on Feb. 17, 1999. She and her husband farmed the home farm in Johnstown Township until 1966, when they moved to Janesville. Gladys served as clerk of Johnstown Township from 1949 until 1966. She was also a bookkeeper at Ed's Surge in Janesville until she retired in 1970. Gladys was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Milton, where she had served as a deacon.
She is survived by her sister, Darleen Zanton of Janesville; 3 nieces: Shirley Zanton, Marjory Imes and Virginia Engbrecht; and a nephew, Kenneth Wilcox. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her 4-year-old son, Dale on Jan. 2, 1941.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 741 E. High St., Milton, with Rev. Herbert Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at Milton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made in Gladys' name to the First Congregational UCC, Milton. Assisting with arrangements is the Whitcomb-Lynch-Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton.

Sylvester E. (Sid) Wilcox, 91, of 2211 E. Luther Road, Janesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Friendship Manor, Janesville, where he had been a resident for three months.
He was born Jan. 5, 1908, in Johnstown Township, the son of Edward A. and Mattie (Crandall) Wilcox. He married Gladys Fisher on June 8, 1933, in Richmond Township. He lived and farmed on the home farm until 1966, when he moved to Janesville and was employed as a custodian at the Vocational School until his retirement in 1970. Sid was a member of First Congregational U.C.C. of Milton and had served as a trustee and deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys' a sister-in-law Darleen (Francis) Zanton; a nephew Kenneth G. Wilcox of Cedar Creek, Tex.; nieces Marjory Imes of Marion, Ky, Virginia Engbrecht of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Shirley Zanton of San Juan Capistrano, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; a four-year-old son Dale on Jan. 2, 1941; a sister Mae Kortlever, and a brother Clifford.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at First Congregational U.C.C. Church, Milton. Pastor Herbert Saunders officiated. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorials may be made to the church.
