Notes for Charles (Spouse 1)
They were married by George Dyre, Justice of the Peace. He was a farmer and a soldier of the Revolution. In the census of June, 1774, he was a resident of West Greenwich, then having one girl and two boys. During 1777 and 1778 he was a member of Col. John Topham's regiment with his brothers, John and Edward, serving in RI. Soon after, probably in 1779, he removed to Little Hoosick (afterward Berlin, Rensselaer Co., NY), and settled there. During the two following years he served as an officer in Capt. Samuel Shaw's company, of the 6th Albany Regt. (the Rensselaerwyck Battalion), having been commissioned ensign Aug 11, 1780, and lieutenant Aug 15, 1781. His four brothers served in the same regiment and company. Some years later, just when it is impossible to learn, he removed to Pinckney, Lewis Co., NY and died there at an advanced age. Most of his children followed him, and that town and Adams, Jefferson Co., adjoining, have been the home of a large part of his descendants since. Children, all by his first wife and the first five (or six) born in RI. He was a resident of Petersborough, NY, at the time of his second marriage. A Charles Greene and wife, Sarah, of Westerely bought land in Westerly on 20 Nov 1777.

"We also have the private family plot where Lt Charles Greene (Rev War Veteran) is buried. He was a brother to John, Edward, Perry, Luke and Joseph Greene. You would really have to know where this plot is to find it. I have been there several times and it is on what used to be the back yard of the old farm home in the Town of Pinckney, Lewis County NY. Now with the grass all grown up and rather a small wooded area with the plot in there with a number of his family members of which some are Witter. Real rather sad and I am not sure how long it will be there. ", Pat Ragan, 2001
