Milton – Francis Taylor Arrington, 85, who has made his home here the last three years with his adopted daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Knight, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Mercy Hospital, Janesville.
A son of Dr. Shadrach C. and Catherine Douglas Arrington, Francis Arrington was born May 23, 1854, in Owensboro, Ky., one of a family of eight sons and a daughter. In the fall of 1860 the family moved from Kentucky to Illinois, settling about eight miles west of Farina.
As a boy of seven, Mr. Arrington saw the soldiers march away to the Civil war, met Abraham Lincoln and shook hands with him. His mother, Catherine Douglas Arrington, was a cousin of Stephen A. Douglas, Lincoln’s opponent for the presidency.
On Jan. 12, 1875, he married Sarah E. Sayre of Farina, Ill., the Rev. W. N. Gerard reading the service. They moved to Waco, Tex., the same year and in 1879 moved to Iowa, which was their home until the death of Mrs. Arrington in 1935.
Four children were born to them, Elvin F., Reno, Nev., formerly of Milton, Clyde S., Oak Park, Ill., Olin R. Arrington, Mt. Vernon, Ia., and Mrs. Olga Fay Jacobs. The latter died in Pasadena, Calif., in 1920. Mrs. Wilfred Knight, Milton, was adopted by the couple in 1907.
Besides the three sons and adopted daughter, Mr. Arrington is survived by two brothers, Charles, Decatur, Ill., and James Arrington, Stockton, Calif. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary, and five brothers, Thomas, Marion, David, John and Albert.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Gray and Albrecht funeral home, Milton Junction. The Rev. Carroll L. Hill, pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist church, officiated and burial will be in Welton, Ia.

Sarah Elizabeth Sayre was born August 15, 1856, at Convoy, Ohio.
She was married to Frank Arrington at Farina, Ill., January 12, 1875. For fifty years they lived at Welton, Ia. She is survived by her aged husband; three sons – Clyde of Oak Park, Ill.; Olin of Spencer; Alvin of Milton, Wis.; and one daughter, Mrs. Iris G. Knight of Milton, Wis.; nine grandchildren; three great-grand-children; and one brother and a sister – Charles Sayre and Mrs. Euphemia Loofboro, both of Albion, Wis.
A short prayer service was held in the home, Sabbath afternoon, followed by the funeral services at the Seventh Day Baptist church of which she was a member, conducted by a former pastor, Rev. Claude L. Hill of Farina, Ill. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. C. L. H.
