Cecile Irma Crandall, 92, of Hwy 26, north, died Friday, Dec. 22, at Mercy hospital from injuries sustained in a fall at her home four days earlier.
She was born April 17, 1886, in North Loup, Neb., the daughter of Calvin and Esther Rood Crandall. In 1891 the family moved to a farm near Edelstein, Ill., and in 1905 they moved to Milton, occupying the present farm home one mile north of Milton since 1909.
Miss Crandall graduated from Milton College in 1913, started her teaching career in Palmyra, Watertown, and Colfax, Wash. high schools, and obtained her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. She then served as head of the English department at Wartburg College, Iowa and in Spokane, Wash.
She returned to the family home in the 1930's, where she established a luncheon service called The Poplars, with her sister, catering to area clubs, parties and tourists. She was active in the Seventh Day Baptist Church, Women's Village Improvement Club and Milton Historical Society.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Esther Bingham, Milton; a brother, George Crandall, of Madison; six nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 24, at the Seventh Day Baptist Church, Milton, with Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating. Burial was held at Milton Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
