R. Leon Burdick, 91, Milton Junction, lifelong Rock County resident, died Saturday, Jan. 22, in Pinehurst Sanatorium, Janesville, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, in the Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton Junction, the Rev. Alvin Briggs, Milton Junction Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Milton Junction Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard Wegner, Clarence Carroll, Jim and Tom Wagner, Howard Drake and Ed Tegt.
R. Leon Burdick was born in Lima Township Aug. 11, 1874, the only son of G. D. and Harriet Burdick. He was orphaned in 1888 and made his home with his grandparents, the E. G. Burdicks in Lima Township. In 1895 he worked during the summer on a passenger steamer on Lake Michigan. On Oct. 4, 1898 he was married to Sarah Bryant, and they farmed in Lima Township for 15 years, after which he was employed for 19 years as handy man at the Rock County Farm and Home, Janesville, maintaining the mechanical and electrical equipment. His lifelong hobbies were music and painting.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Mabel) Odenwalder and Mrs. Victor (Nellie) Lee, both of Milton Junction, and Mrs. Margaret Munson, now of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Leon Burdick, 91, member of a pioneer Lima Township family, and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Rock Haven, Janesville, where she had been residing since April, 1967.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, from the Albrecht Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Jones, Faith United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Milton Junction Cemetery with Carl Patterson, Howard Drake, Lee Scoville and John Gallmann as pallbearers.
Sarah Bryant, daughter of William and Harriet Bryant, was born Sept. 27, 1878, at Lima and was married in Milton to Leon Burdick Oct. 4, 1898. The couple was employed as attendants at the Rock County Home and Hospital for many years prior to their retirement. They had observed their 67th wedding anniversary before his death in 1966.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Mabel) Odenwalder, Milton; Mrs. Victor (Nellie) [name omitted] of Genoa, and Mrs. Wilbur (Margaret) Munson, of Denver, Cole.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death besides her husband, was a granddaughter, Peggy Odenwalder Gallmann.

Lee Hayner Scoville, 82, of Milton, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Rock County on June 15, 1926, the son of Lee and Nellie (Burdick-Lee) Scoville. He was a graduate of Milton Union High School. Lee served his country during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was stationed in the Solomon Islands at Bouganville in the South Pacific. His patriotism for his country and his pride in being a Marine helped define his life and the man he became. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the VFW Club in Milton. He married Marilyn Crosby on July 31, 1948. They shared 60 years together. Lee was in the electrical business most of his life, which included owning his own business for 16 years and then became Vice-President of Cole Electric in Janesville. He gave back to his community by serving on the Milton Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years, was on the Milton City Council for two terms during the time that Milton and Milton Junction merged, and was actively involved in starting youth programs in baseball and basketball. His love of sports continued through his passion for golf. He started and was president of the Men's Thursday Night Golf League at Oak Ridge Golf Course for many years and was inducted into the Milton Area Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, Canada trips, Montana trips on horseback and the special times he shared with his close friends.
Lee was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them. He enjoyed the many trips he spent in Arizona with family and friends. His positive attitude towards life was contagious to everyone around him. Lee was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Milton.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his children, Becky (Harold) Whitney of Milton and Scott (Dawn) Scoville of Milton; his grandchildren: Matt Holman, Greg (Danielle) Holman, Joe Whitney, Kim (Tony) Astin, Jill (Jason) Burki, Julie Cwetna, Kurt Yager, and Brian Scoville; his great-grandchildren: Thomas, Davis, Kylee, Corrine, David, Andre, and Spencer; his mother-in-law, Ann Crosby (at Skaalen Home); his brother-in-law, Don (Kay) Crosby of Whitewater; sister-in-law, Judy (George) Klinger of Iowa;, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Scoville Sr.; his mother, Nellie Lee; his stepfather, Victor Lee; his sister, Dee Cowan; and his father-in-law, Don Crosby.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Hope Lutheran Church in Milton, with Pastor Matt Powell officiating. Burial will take place at Milton Junction Cemetery, with full Military rights. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Whitcomb-Lynch-Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton, and from 10:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Friday at the church.
