Percy W. Burdick, 78, of Rockford, Ill., died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, in the Sutton Nursing Home, Belvidere, Ill., following a long illness.
The son of Dr. Justin H. and Fanny Coon Burdick, he was born Feb. 11, 1886, in Utica, Wis. He attended Milton Academy.
He was married to Gertrude Livingston in Milton Junction June 22, 1914. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. They resided in the Milton area until moving to Rockford 46 years ago. He was employed in the Inspection Dept. of Barber-Colman Co., Rockford, for 36 years before retiring in 1955. He was a member of the Centennial Methodist Church, the Church Board and Choir, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Lincoln Park Improvement Assn. He was also a Charter Member of the Rockford Hobby Club of which he became a lifetime member in June.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; two sons, David L. and W. Douglas Burdick, of Rockford; four grandchildren; six brothers, Paul of Placerville, Calif., Hugh of Janesville, Clifford in Arizona, William of Wauwatosa, Roger and Robert of Milton; and two sisters, Phyllis and Ruth.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Centennial Methodist Church, the Rev. A. J. Tavenner officiating. Burial was in the Milton Junction Cemetery with Eric Nordberg, Del Sherman, Charles Leatherby, Millard Castle, Lawrence Grimes, all of Rockford, and Maurice Cooper of Newville, as pallbearers.
A memorial has been established at the Centennial Methodist Church, Rockford, in his name.
