John Cottrell was admitted a freeman from North Kingston in 1734 and a freeman of Westerly in 1739, being called "John Cottrell the 2nd". This part of Westerly was set off as Hopkinton, 19 March 1757. He left no will, but on 25 Dec. 1777, he deeded to son Lebbus Cottrell land bought of Benjimin Maxson, also a lot in Wunchunk Pond. And to son John, 50 acres. Elizabeth Cottrell of Hophinton Life Lease inn 60 acres. Among a list of members of the First Hopkinton Church in 1740-John Cottrell 2nd.
