Henry W. Green, son of Stillman S. and Esther Wells Green, was born May 15, 1848, in a log house on the homestead three miles north of Milton Junction. He received his education in the Rock River school and Milton academy. In early manhood he was baptized and became a member of the Rock River S. D. B. church.
On April 20, 1873, Henry Green and Miss Cynthia Jane Stiles were united in marriage. They lived on a farm north of Milton Junction until about thirty years ago when they moved to town where they celebrated their golden wedding on April 20, 1923.
Of the three children born to Mr. and Mrs. Green, Harry S. lives at Milton Junction and Mrs. Mabel Hadden at Edgerton. A son Fred H. died in June, 1927, and his mother died in October of the same year.
Mr. Green had been a resident of the town of Milton all his life up to a year and one-half ago. During that time he served as road commissioner of the township for fifteen years. He took up his residence with his daughter Mrs. Frank Hadden at Edgerton in 1930. Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, he went to Janesville and was walking home at night [along Highway 51] when an automobile driven by H. S. Souther of Washington, D. C., struck him, killing him instantly. Besides his children, he is survived by a brother John Green of Edgerton; two sisters, Mrs. Della Janes of Sibley, Iowa, and Mrs. Sarah Wheatcraft of North Loup, Neb.; also seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Dr. Edwin Shaw of Milton officiated at the funeral services which were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Gray and Albrecht funeral home. Burial was in the Milton Junction cemetery, the pallbearers being J. A. Paul, W. S. Agnew, F. J. Lee and Reuben Randolph.
