Kathryn Margaret (Bliss) Rogers 1884-1938

The unexpected death of Mrs. Kathryn B. Rogers, Milton, Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. following a heart attack was a severe shock to this entire community and her many other friends. She had done her work as usual on Monday but on Tuesday was not feeling well, a fact which many of her friends did not know.
Friends may call at the Crandall funeral home, Milton, Friday night. The body will lie in state at the Seventh Day Baptist church, Milton, Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 o'clock, the time of the service. Rev. Carroll L. Hill, who went to North Loup, Neb., on Tuesday, will return to officiate. Burial will be in Milton.
Kathryn, daughter of Elferd D. and Margaret Steer Bliss, was born Aug. 13, 1884, on Vernal ave., Milton Junction. [Marriage cert says Aug. 23] While she was a small child the family moved to Milton which has since been her home.
Last Christmas the Milton S.D.B. church gave honor to her for forty years of faithful service as organist which began when she was only thirteen.
She graduated from the school of music of Milton college in pianoforte and later studied organ with Pres. W. C. Daland of the college and with teachers in Milwaukee and Chicago. Following the death of Pres. Daland in 1921, she became organ teacher at the college. For several years she has been director of the Treble Clef, the girls chorus of Milton college, and for many years has been accompanist for the Milton Choral Union. For the past three years she has been organist for the First Baptist church, Janesville.
Besides being active in musical circles, she participated in all activities of the S. D. B. church, and was a member also of the Woman's Village Improvement club.
She is survived by Walter E. Rogers, village clerk, to whom she was married in 1905, a son Robert of Milton, a brother Earl Bliss of Valier, Mont., and an aunt, Mrs. Bertha Spafford, Winnebago, Ill.

Funeral services for Walter E. Rogers, 69, veteran county supervisor and village clerk, who died early Thursday in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church, Dr. Edwin B. Shaw and Dr. Carroll Hill officiating. Burial was in Milton cemetery.
Pallbearers were members of the village board, Edward Rood, Elmer Anderson, Elwood Shumway, Prof. D. N. Inglis, Walter Sayre and A. F. Blomgren.
Mr. Rogers was born in May, 1880, in Marion county, Ill., the son of A. C. and Alice E. Rogers. In the fall of 1899 he came to Milton and enrolled in the Milton academy, completing his high school work started in Illinois. He took scientific courses for four years at Milton college, graduating in 1902.
Mr. Rogers was named village clerk in 1915 and served continuously. He was elected to the Rock county board of supervisors in 1928, and served as vice chairman and chairman during his years in office.
Before purchasing his ice cream business in 1914, Mr. Rogers worked as a carpenter, photographer and printer.
In 1915 the present building which houses the Rogers Soda shop and his home were built.
Mr. Rogers was married in 1905 to Kathryn Bliss, widely known in the area as an organist and pianist. She died in August of 1938. He was married in December of 1939 to Mrs. Cordia Slater.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Robert, who with his family lives in Phoenix, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. A. E. Whitford, Alfred, N. Y., and Mrs. Agnes Saunders. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orra.
