Randall, father of Silas, fought in the Revolutionary War. His wife Rhoda Greene of Joseph Greene was born in Westerly, RI. He was married to Rhoda, Dec 28, 1773 by Justice William Nichols. This information taken from the book "Vital Records of Rhode Island" 1636 to 1850, 1st Series, Births, Marriages and Death. It is Film #0908269.

In the census of 1774, Randall and his wife are given residents of West Greenwich, having one daughter, then a baby. He was a soldier of the Revolution, and probably was a member of Col. Christopher Lippits Regiment with his brother-in-law, Sgt Luke Greene. In the attempted expedition against Rhode Island under Gen.Spencer, Lt Joseph James (who had been Sgt in Capt Gortons Co. of Col. Lippetts regiment) and "Ensign Randall Spencer" were ordered tojoin Capt. Gortons Co. They served their tour of duty, but were refused payment, and asserted also that he (Randall) took part in the campaign of Saratoga petitioned the General Assembly in June 1778 for such payment. It is asserted also that he took part in the campaign of Saratoga and Bennington with his wife's brothers. Soon after this he removed and settled in Berlin, Rensselaer Co., NY, where their lives were spent. During his later years he was known as "Col. Randall Spencer"; in the inscription on his tombstone he is styled "Lieut.-Col.". He lies buried in the cemetery some two miles south of Berlin, and his tombstone bears the following couplet: Here I lie according to the decree, Shaded by the tree of liberty. Rens. Co., NY Land Deed. 5-231. 21 March 1808 between Randall Spencer of Town of Berlin and Rhoda his wife and William H. Murray of same for $250.00 land in town of Berlin, 83 acres. Witnessess: J. Hastings, Jaret Culver, recorded 8 March 1809. March 22, 1788, Ensign; Dec 1, 1796, Capt. and Col.; June 9, 1807, lately commanded a Regiment, and resigned.
