In Koshkonong, Wis., June 20th, 1874, Mrs. Sally Pierce, formerly Allen, widow of Rev. Nathan Pierce, in the 82d year of her age. The deceased embraced the religion of Jesus in early life under the ministrations of Eld. Matthew Stillman, and united with the 1st Hopkinton Church, R. I. She removed to Allegany county, N. Y., among the early settlers of that then western country, and united with the 1st Alfred Church. She removed with her family to Wisconsin about thirty years ago, but did not remove her church membership. For some years previous to her death, she lived somewhat remote from church and society privileges, and as a consequence she did not enjoy her mind religiously as she had formerly done. But her hope in Christ revived somewhat, and in her last illness, which was protracted and painful, she expressed a comfortable hope in the mercy of God through faith in Christ. She endured her sufferings without complaint, and died in a good old age, in the hope of the first and better resurrection. Her funeral was attended on the afternoon of June 21st, by a large concourse of relatives and friends, and a sermon was preached at the Rock River meeting house, from Luke 23: 28, "Weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and your children." In Barton, Wis., May 7th, of a long standing and complicated disease, Mr. Nathan Pierce, in the 62nd year of his age. In early life he embraced the religion of the Gospel, and has since lived an exemplary and Christian life. During the last few years of his life, he suffered much from bodily infirmity. His sufferings were borne with Christian patience and resignation. He has left his bereaved and afflicted family, the comforting assurance that he has fallen asleep in Jesus. He was beloved and respected by all who knew him in this new country. H. W. B.
