Jane was born in New York and married Russell Bowers there. Four years later, the couple moved to Wisconsin, settling in Lima, Rock County, Wisconsin. They had at least two children. Russell died around 1855 in Newville, Rock County. In 1858 Janemarried Samuel Stennett Pierce and spent the rest of her life atThiebeau Point on Lake Koshkonong (now known as Tebo Point). After Samuel died in 1882 Jane lived with her son Samuel Stennett Pierce. This information comes from her obituary on p.1 of the August 16, 1900 Milton Junction Weekly Telephone.

Samuel was "a fur buyer who made trips through this part of the country (ie, near Lake Koshknonong)". His wife was first married to a man named Russell Bowers, who bought Teboe Point on the south side of Lake Koshkonong. Samuel and his family later settled there. According to The Bicentennial History of Milton, Samuel shipped $175 worth of furs to Milwaukee that he had trapped at Lake Koshkonong as late as some time during the1870s.
