Lucy M. Hall 1835-1922
"The Journal-Telephone", Milton Junction, Wisconsin, Thursday, Nov. 23, 1922, p 1.
Miss Lucy Hall, one of our oldest town residents, after an illness of some months, passed away last Thursday morning, November 16. She was born in Alfred, N. Y., March 26, 1835 - more than 87 years ago. She was the last of a family of six children born to Gardiner and Nancy Stillman Hall and was laid to rest beside her father and mother in the Rock River Cemetery.
The Hall family made the journey from Allegany Co., N. Y., in 1839 when Lucy was but four years of age and settled on a farm near Lima, Wis. Later they moved to a farm at Rock River where they lived for many years and where they enjoyed a large circle of friends and acquaintenances.
Those who knew Miss Hall speak of her in terms of highest praise. She was a christian woman of sturdy type and embodied those graces which endeared her to all her friends and acquaintenances. Sunshiny in disposition she radiated good cheer and caused the sun to shine in many a life where darkness and gloom would otherwise have reigned. She was an unselfish woman finding her chief joy in helping others and will be greatly missed by her many friends. She untied in early girlhood with the Milton S. D. B. church but later transferred her membership to the Milton Junction church of which she was a member at the time of her death.
Funeral services were conducted from her late home in Milton by her pastor, Rev. E. D. Van Horn, assisted by the Rev. H. N. Jordan, pastor of the Milton church. Beautiful floral offerings testified to the esteem of which she was held. Appropriate music was furnished by the Junction choir under the leadership of Mrs. Edward Hull.
Those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Hall, Manchester, Ia., Mr. Chas McGlauchlin, Mrs. Will Raymond, Mrs. Geo. Lowe, Miss Hanna McGlauchlin, Beloit, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Louis Damuth, Mrs. Paul Stroud, Elkhorn, Mr. and Mrs. Al Buss, Clinton, Mrs. Ella Brown, Edgerton, and Mr. Clarence Curtis, Fort Atkinson.
