Mrs. Nellie R. C. Shaw, the widow of the late Dr. Edwin Ben Shaw of Milton College, died early Monday morning, Sept. 3, in Mercy Hospital, where she had been taken following a stroke on Sunday night.
Mrs. Shaw was born in Cambridge, Wis., November 6, 1870, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Campbell, early settlers of Dane County. She attended Milton Academy and a Janesville business school, and taught in rural schools before her marriage July 24, 1895. With the exception of 14 years in Plainfield, N. J., she had made her home in Milton.
She was a charter member of the Milton W. V. I. club, and a member of the Past Presidents. She was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters: Leland C. Shaw, Elston E. Shaw, Mrs. Constance Bingham and Stephana Shaw, all of Milton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two of her five sisters also survive: Mrs. Edith Greene of Seattle, Wash., and Miss Myra Campbell of Janesville.
Funeral services were held in the Milton church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph. Pallbearers were her nephews: Jay Taylor, Frank Taylor, Irving McEwan, Myron West, Robert Dorr and John Wetmore. Burial was in the Milton cemetery.

Rev. Edwin Ben Shaw was born in Freeborn, Minn., August 1, 1863, and passed away at his home in Milton, Wis., October 14, 1950. He was the eldest child of John Leland and Catherine Amanda Burdick Shaw.
He was graduated from Milton College in 1888. After teaching in Leonardsville, N. Y., for a time, he returned to Milton as a member of the college faculty in September, 1890, which position he held until July, 1908. He was granted the Master of Arts degree in 1891. In June, 1917, Milton College conferred upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity.
Rev. Mr. Shaw was pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Christ, Plainfield, N. J., from July 1, 1908, to December 31, 1916. From 1909 to 1916, he was also corresponding secretary of the American Sabbath Tract Society. He served the Tract Society and the Seventh Day Baptist Missionary Society as joint executive secretary from September, 1916, to September, 1922. At the termination of this service, he returned to Milton College as a member of the faculty, continuing in such capacity until his retirement in 1944. He also was corresponding secretary of the General Conference and recording secretary of the Commission during the early years of the Commission.
He was married to Nellie Ruth Campbell on July 24, 1895.
Dr. Shaw was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, of Du Lac Lodge, No. 322, I.O.O.F., of Io Rebekah Lodge No. 103, and of Rock River Encampment No. 3 of Janesville. He was the first to be honored by the Milton College Alumni Association as a "Pillar of Milton," and at the time of his death he was the only professor emeritus of the Milton College.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Professor Leland C. and Elston, and two daughters, Miss Stephana Shaw and Mrs. Elton Bingham, all of Milton; seven grandchildren, Edwin B. Shaw, Mrs. Herbert Briggs, Charles, Bruce, Linda, Ruth, and Holly Bingham; one great-grandchild, Laura Briggs, and one brother, Dr. George B. Shaw, of Alfred, N. Y.
The service was held in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon, October 17, 1950, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Elmo F. Randolph officiating and the Odd Fellows assisting.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church for Dr. Edwin Ben Shaw, 87, noted scholar and clergyman, who died of a heart attack in his home in Milton Saturday afternoon. Dr. Shaw had been in declining health for several years, but he was active. He continued to drive his car, he seldom missed church services or lodge meetings, and he was a frequent visitor in the homes of many friends. he helped cheer the lives of many persons who were bedridden or otherwise confined to their homes by illness.
Dr. Shaw was born Aug. 1, 1863, in Freeborn, Minn., the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Shaw. As a young man he came to Milton to study and was graduated from the college in 1888. After teaching for a time in Leonardsville, N. Y., he returned to Milton 1890 as a member of the college faculty until 1908. He then served as pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist church of Plainfield, N. J., and executive secretary of the Seventh Day Baptist Missionary society. He returned to Milton college in 1922 and taught until 1945 when he retired as professor emeritus. During all those years he carried a heavier teaching load than any other professor and also served as the founder and librarian of the college library, which had previously functioned as the Daniel Babcock library and three separate libraries administered via the lyceums, or student literary societies. he at one time was also the physical director, conducting the athletic exercises in the old wooden gym that occupied the ground upon which the P. L. Hudson residence now stands. He was for two years acting president prior to the administration of Dr. William C. Daland.
Dr. Shaw was married July 24, 1895, to Nellie Ruth Campbell. George Waterman, of I.O.O.F. lodge No. 14, and David Heenan, of I.O.O.F. lodge No. 90, both of Janesville, conducted the service for the Odd Fellows.
Pallbearers were: Curtis Austin, Roger Burdick, Leland Hulett, Bernard Marquart, George Shellestad, and Leland Skaggs. Honorary bearers were: Harry B. Crandall, John N. Daland, O. B. Hall, D. Nelson Inglis, Guy Polan, and Will Thorpe.
Among the relatives who attended from away were: Mrs. H. O. Burdick [Hannah Shaw], Alfred, N. Y.; and Mrs. Irving McEwan, Chicago; Miss Maude Gardiner and Mrs. Mildred Salliday, Brodhead; Melvin Shaw, and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shaw, Edgerton; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Taylor, Miss Mary Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. John Wetmore, Mr. Russell and June Wetmore, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dorr, Avalon; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Reader and Wanda, Janesville.
Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
