Mrs. Sarah Greene, wife of Philo Greene, died at the home of her son, Jason, in this village the 18th inst. She had been ill for several months, and tho hoping against hope, her death was not unexpected by her family and friends.
She was born of christian parents, John and Eleanor Crandall in Sandy Creek, Oswego county, N. Y., Feb. 28, 1848. She was married to Philo Greene May 2, 1863. Their residence was at Adams Center, Jefferson county, N. Y., till 1872, when they moved to Nebraska, settling in the Platt valley near Wood River. In 1890 they removed to North Loup where their home has since been.
Mrs. Greene was a devout spiritually minded christian woman. She was, from her early married life, a valued member of the Seventh Day Baptist church at Adams Center, N. Y.. till her removal to North Loup, then with her husband, she became a member of the church of that faith in this place and has ever been true and loyal, her life and character bearing constant testimony to her faith in Christ.
Her husband and two children have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends who feel that they are also bereaved in this death.

Philo Greene was born at Adams Center, New York, April 7, 1843, and died at the home of J. I. Goodrich in this village Monday June 9, 1913 aged a little over 70 years.
May 2, 1863,he was married to Sarah Crandall of Oswego county, New York, who died in 1904. To this union two children were born, J. D. Greene and Mrs. J. I. Goodrich.
In 1873 he removed from New York to Hall county, Nebraska, and in 1890 to this place where his home was much of the time till he died.
More than fifty years ago he was baptized and became a member of the S. D. B. church at Adams Center. After moving to this place he had his membership transferred to the church of his faith here.
When in the sixties his country needed soldiers he enlisted first in the 94th New York infantry and later served in the 24th cavalry. He took part in 42 battles and skirmishes. In one of them he was wounded and from that time was always somewhat lame.
During the years of his residence in the village he held various offices of honor and trust and in them all he was true to his conviction and was faithful to every trust.
Funeral services were held from the house Tuesday morning conducted by pastor Geo. B. Shaw. Music was furnished by the ladies quartet.
