Herbert L. Baker passed away in the Edgerton hospital Monday, July 30, at 2 p.m. He had been ill since April, having been in and out of the hospital several times. During his last few weeks he was cared for in the home of his niece, Mrs. Vincent Burtness, at Orfordville.
He was well known for his artistic ability in painting and the writing of poetry. Mr. Baker was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and attended church as his health permitted. He was respected by those who knew him and leaves many beautiful paintings and thoughts with us.
Herbert Leroy Baker was the son of Alexander Baker and Mary L. Evans Baker. He was 85 years old, being born in Juneau, Dodge Co., Wis., Nov. 27, 1870. There he attended the local school and grew to young manhood, learning the painting trade, his father's occupation; later taking up the study of decorative art. He was married to Miss Lottie Gray, in Milton Junction, July 31, 1909, and moved to Milton Junction July 31, 1914, where they spent the remainder of their lives. His beloved wife, Lottie, preceded him in death five years ago, Oct. 30, 1951. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Mr. Baker is survived by three nieces, his sister's children: Mrs. Mabel Davis and Mrs. Hazel Wells, both of California, and Mrs. Gladys Deuel, in Michigan. He was the last of his line of the Baker family.
Masonic rites were held at the Albrecht funeral home, Milton Junction, at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 1. Funeral services will be held in the Milton Junction Methodist church at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, with Rev. Cecil Dawson and Pastor Kenneth Smith officiating. Burial will be in Milton Junction cemetery.

Mrs. H. L. Baker died in her home, 107 Vernal avenue, Milton Junction, at 4 p.m. Tuesday. She had been in failing health for some time and for the past two months failed rapidly.
Lottie Leona Gray was born in Milton Junction, July 31, 1879, the daughter of Chauncey and Lydia E. Monroe Gray. She grew to womanhood here and attended Milton college and was a teacher in rural schools in Rock county for several years.
She became a member of the old Rock River Seventh Day Baptist church when a young woman, later transferring to the Milton Junction church. She was also a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Ladies Aid society, the W.C.T.U. and Friendship chapter Eastern Star, and was active in all these organizations as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by her husband; three brothers, Carl Gray, Fred Gray and Winferd Gray, Milton Junction; one sister, Mrs. J. E. McWilliam of Milton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in the Seventh Day Baptist church at 2 p.m. Saturday, and burial will be in Milton Junction cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Van Horn will officiate. The Eastern Star ritual will be given.
Friends may call at the Baker home, 107 Vernal avenue, Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Funeral services for Mrs. H. L. Baker were held in the Seventh Day Baptist church, Milton Junction, Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Kenneth Van Horn officiating. Burial was in Milton Junction cemetery.
The song service was given by Donald Gray, Milton, accompanied by Mrs. Leland Shaw. Officers of Friendship chapter, Eastern Star, gave the Eastern Star ritual.
Pallbearers were Clarence McWilliam, John Campbell, Oscar Hartman, Ralph, Robert and Charles Gray.
