Miss Alberta Crandall, 96, former Parkview Terrace resident, professor of music at Milton College for 45 years prior to retirement in 1950, died Sunday at Memorial Community Hospital, Edgerton, where she had been a patient for the past eight months. Sunday was her 96th birthday.
She was born April 20, 1879, in Lexington, Ky., the daughter of Prof. Albert R. and Ellen Saunders Crandall. She received her music education at Milton College, where her father taught, and at New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, Mass. She returned to Milton in 1903 to start her teaching career and also taught piano for some time after her retirement.
Miss Crandall was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church for more than 80 years and was a former organist and member of its choir. She was a long time member of the Milton Choral Union and orchestra.
In June 1948 Miss Crandall was presented the Milton College alumni "Pillar of Milton" award, the highest honor bestowed by the alumni association.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Ellen Place, and one brother, Truman.
Immediate survivors include nieces and nephews.
Rev. Earl Cruzan officiated at services Tuesday, April 22, in the church, with burial in the Milton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Albrecht Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alberta Crandall was born April 20, 1879 at Lexington, Ky., and died at Memorial Community Hospital, Edgerton, Wis., on April 20, 1975 after a long illness.
She was the daughter of Prof. Albert R. and Ellen Saunders Crandall. She received her music education at Milton College and New England Conservatory of Music. She returned to Milton in 1903 to begin her teaching at the college. In 1948 she received the "Pillar of Milton" award. She retired from the college in 1950. She was a member of the Milton church for over eighty years.
Funeral services were held at the church on April 22, 1975 by her pastor, Rev. Earl Cruzan. Interment was in Milton Cemetery. E.C.
