Miss Ada Elizabeth Crandall, 85, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 23, in Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient a few days.
She was born Feb. 17, 1888 at North Loop, Nebraska, the second child of Calvin and Etta Rood Crandall. The family moved to the rural community of West Hallock, near Edelstein, Ill. in 1891 where her father operated a farm for

settled in 1909 on the present family homestead on Hwy 26 one mile north of Milton. [The farm homesteaded by Gardner Saunders in the 1840's.]
Miss Crandall graduated from Milton College in 1912, serving part of her student days as secretary to President William C. Daland. She was on the Milton College Faculty for several years, acting as preceptress at the women's dormitory. She also taught at Salem College, Salem, West Virginia and at Franklin College in Indiana. She completed studies for her master's degree in romance languages at the University of Wisconsin in 1921. In recent years she has lived with her sister Cecile, on the family homestead.
In Milton she acted at various times as president, secretary and treasurer of the Milton Village Improvement Club, now the Milton Women's Club. She was a

also of the Milton Historical Society and served as secretary and treasurer of First District Federation of Woman's Club. She was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and held offices in its Woman's Circle. The two sisters operated the Poplar's Tea Room for many years.
Survivors are two sisters, Miss Cecile Crandall and Mrs. Esther Bingham, both of Milton; six nieces and one nephew. A brother, Persons, died March 20, 1973.
Funeral services were help at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 from the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating. Burial was in Milton Cemetery with Roger Burdick, William Arthur and Leman Rood, Kenneth Ochs, Raymond Sholtz and Arthur Drake as pallbearers.
