Funeral services for Byron E. Coon, 79, were held at 2 p. m. Sunday, Nov 7, in the Phelps funeral home with burial in Milton cemetery. The Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph officiated assisted by Dr. Edwin Ben Shaw.
Mr. Coon died at 9:30 p. m. Friday in the Edgerton Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for 11 days.
The son of James and Jeanette Crandall Coon, he was born Nov. 12, 1869, in Utica, Wis., and was educated in the Albion academy and Milton college. He came to Milton at the age of 22 and was married Sept. 29, 1903, to Nellie Viola Coon in New Auburn, Minn.
They purchased a farm south of Milton, living there until their retirement from farming in 1927. Since that time, they have lived in a home they bought on Rogers street. He was active in work of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church and its Sabbath school and the I.O.O.F.
Survivors are his wife; a son, B. Elwin Coon, Beloit, an adopted daughter, Mrs Retta Spaulding, Clintonville; three granddaughters, and two grandsons and a sister, Mrs. J. Fred Whitford, Milton.

Mrs. Byron E. Coon, resident of Milton many years, died in a Pittsburgh, Pa., Hospital following a brief illness due to a stroke. Her body arrived at the Albrecht Funeral Home, Monday, and friends called there Tuesday night.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Coon, Nellie Viola was born Feb. 29, 1880, in New Auburn, Minn. On Sept. 29, 1903, she was married to Byron E, Coon, who died in Milton on Nov. 5, 1948.
A member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church, Mrs. Coon was active in choir and quartet work and taught in the junior department of the Sabbath school. She attended Milton College for two years.
Survivors are one son, Byron Elwin Coon, Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. Willard Spaulding, Clintonville, Wis.; and six grandchildren, John, Janet and Jean of Pittsburgh, John, Willard and Lu, Clintonville. A brother, Durward Coon of Milton, and a sister, Mrs. George Truman of Bruce, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church. The Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph officiated and Kenneth Babcock gave the song service and Miss Betty Daland furnished the organ music. Burial was in Milton Cemetery, pallbearers were Charles A. Nelson, W. Guy Polan, D. Nelson Inglis, Arthur Drake, Howard Drake and Carl F. Anderson.
