Rev. Herbert Eugene, son of Harrison E. and Eliza Jane Boyd Davis was born in North Loup, Neb., August 1, 1879, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Burton B. Crandall, Milton, Wis., March 31, 1963.
He was married to Miss Mary Alice Ross at Plainfield, N. J., on Jun 11, 1907. Surviving children of this union are: Dr. Richard R., New Richmond, Wis.; Winthrop E., Berkeley, Calif.; Carol (Mrs. Burton B. Crandall), Milton, Wis.; and Marcia (Mrs. Kenneth Kreiser), Pennfield, N. Y. He is also survived by two brothers: George E. of Brookfield, N. Y., and Orsen E. of Denver, Colo., and by ten grandchildren. Mrs. Davis died on May 24, 1961.
He, with Mrs. Davis, united with the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Alfred, Alfred, N. Y., by testimony Jan. 13, 1945, while making their home in Alfred, having previously held membership in the Shainghai, China, church and elsewhere.
Memorial services were conducted at the Milton, Wis., Seventh Day Baptist Church on April 2, 1963, with the pastor, The Rev. Elmo F. Randolph, officiating. Services were held at the Alfred church on April 4, with Dean Albert N. Rogers, School of Theology, and Rev. Hurley S. Warren officiating. Interment was in Alfred Rural Cemetery. H. S. W.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, for Rev. H. Eugene Davis, 83, at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, the Rev Elmo Randolph officiating. Services also were held at the Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church, Alfred, N. Y. at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (today), April 4, with burial in the Alfred Rural Cemetery.
Rev. Davis, formerly of Alfred, N. Y., passed away Sunday, March 31, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Burton Crandall, Milton, where he had lived for the past nine months.
The son of Harrison and Eliza Boyd Davis, he was born in North Loup, Neb., Aug. 1, 1879. He was graduated from Alfred University in 1904 and from the Alfred School of Theology in 1907. He was married to Mary Ross in 1907. He was a missionary in Shanghai, China, for the seventh Day Baptist Church for 37 years, returning to the United States on the Wartime Mercy Ship "Gripsholm" in 1943. He was a resident of Alfred, N. Y. and Fayetteville, N. Y., until he came to Milton last year.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Richard R. Davis, New Richmond, Wis., Winthrop E. Davis of Berkley, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Burton Crandall, Milton, and Mrs. Kenneth Kreiser, Penfield, N. Y.; two brothers, George E. of Brookfield, N. Y. and Orsen E., Denver, Colo., and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Davis - Mary Alice Ross, daughter of Richard Alanson Ross and Caroline Willetts Ross, was born in South Bound Brook, N. J., June 27, 1880, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Burton B. Crandall, Fayetteville, N. Y., May 24, 1961.
On June 11, 1907, she was married to H. Eugene Davis at Plainfield, N. J., who survives. To this union were born four sons and two daughters: Richard Eugene, who died at birth; Edgar, who died when eight months of age; Dr. Richard R. Davis, New Richmond, Wis.; Winthrop E. Davis, Berkeley, Calif.; Carol (Mrs. Burton B. Crandall), and Marcia (Mrs. Kenneth Kriesler), Penfield, N. Y. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
She and her husband, the Rev. H. Eugene Davis, served as Seventh-day Baptist missionaries in Shanghai, China for over 37 years. Thet were repatriated to the United States from a Japenese internment camp on the Gripsholm in 1943. They came to Alfred to live until two years ago, when they went to Fayetteville to be with their daughter Carol and family.
Mrs. Davis united with the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Alfred by testimony on January 13, 1945, having previously held her membership in the Shanghai church and elsewhere.
Memorial services were conducted at the Alfred church on May 28, with Dean Albert N. Rogers, School of Theology, Alfred University, and the Rev. Hurley S. Warren, her pastor, officiating. Interment was in Alfred Rural Cemetery. H. S. W.
