Notes for George CHAMPLIN
George was collecting a Revolutionary War pension in 1840. He was living at Lincklaen, NY in the home of Joshua "Saunders" and was 83 years old at the time. (Joshua Saunders was the husband of his daughter, Mary.) George had applied for this pension on 4/22/1818. Certificate #14747 (Act of 1818) was issued to him on 9/6/1819. A letter from the Pension Department dated 7/6/1820 stated that George was not entitled to a pension after all because he held some property. George reapplied on 6/21/1820 and on 2/15/1821 he requested that his application be reconsidered. In an affidavit dated 2/6/1821 George stated that he was of Brookfiled, NY (Madison Co), age 64, and was disposed of his property. His family at the time consisted of wife Lydia (51), son Elijah (14) and daughters Eliza (12) and Emeline (9).

In the 1850 Census, Lydia (81 RI) was enumerated in the home of her daughter Mary (Champlin) Sanders at Lincklaen (Chenango Co),NY.

In the 1855 State Census, Lydia "Champlain", aged 86, mother, born in Rhode Island, was enumerated in the Town of De Ruyter(Madison Co) NY where she'd been a resident for 22 yrs. Her occupation was listed as "weaver".
