C. [Cyrenus] J. Burdick, a well known former resident of Yuba County, died yesterday morning at Durham,
Butte County. He retired to bed in good spirits and apparently in the best of health, after spending the
day with his four children. He died some time during the night. Burdick was one of the pioneer residents
of Butte and Yuba counties. He was a native of Hanover, Mich., and was born November 9, 1837.
He first located at Strawberry Valley, Yuba County, remaining there for six months before moving to
Forbestown. A short time later he moved to Nevada, but soon returned to California and in 1862 located on
the present home place one and a quarter miles west of Durham. At that time it consisted of 160 acres, but
during his lifetime he extended his holdings until at the time of his death they comprised 1060 acres. His
activities were principally stockraising and grain farming, frequently having as much as 3000 acres under
lease besides his own property.
His wife was before marriage Sarah A. Dibble. She was a native of Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Burdick became the parents of eight children, four of whom are still living.
