Emily Babcock was born in Harrison county, West Va., September 5, 1824. She moved with her parents to Ohio, when about 6 years old. She was married to James Hurt at the age of 17. At the age of 12 she united with the Seventh day Baptist church.
To this union were born 9 children, four of whom are living. She was left a widow in February, 1861 and was married again in March 1862 to John A. Lippincott.
To this union was born one son. In later life she united with the Old School Baptist church of which church she remained a faithful member until called to the church above. She died February 5, 1903, aged 78.
She leaves a husband and five children to know their loss. She was a true wife, a loving mother, a kind neighbor, a trusted friend, a firm believer in Jesus as her Savior. She suffered much but she patiently bore her sufferings, looking forward with joyful anticipation to the happy home where the inhabitants never say "I am sick."
The funeral services were held at the Methodist Protestant church at Lewistown, Ohio, conducted by Rev. J. Shepherd, the pastor. Interment at Lewistown cemetery.
