Elijah Crandall was born at Sandy Point, New York, June 5th, 1839, and died at his home in this village Sunday afternoon October 19, 1919, aged nearly eighty and one half years.
On August 2, 1862, he enlisted in defense of his country, serving until August 28, 1865, when he received his discharge. Two years later he was united in marriage with Miss Lucy Greene. In the fall of 1873 they moved to Hall county, Nebraska, where he had homesteaded some time before. Here they lived until in the fall of 1890 when they moved to this village and here they lived until death called them to another home.
Uncle Lige had slowly failed in health for some months, so slowly that those who saw him the most hardly realized he was failing, and so he died as he had lived, quietly, troubling no one, asking favors of no one, ready to meet any condition which might await him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the church conducted by pastor A. L. Davis and the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife, six of his grand nephews, Ren, Ward, Clifford and Harold Goodrich, Sam and Ed Greene acting as bearers. The schools were dismissed that the boys and girls might pay their last respects to the one who during all the years of their school life in the village was their closest friend - one who always had their interests at heart. All the business houses of the village were closed during the funeral services as a further mark of respect.

Lucy Green Crandall was born in Jefferson county, New York, June 7, 1840, and died at her home in this village Saturday morning, September 30.
November 1, 1867, she was married to Elijah Crandall. They lived in New York for a number of years; in the early seventies moving to Nebraska, first settling in Hall county. In 1890 she with her husband moved to this place, and here was her home till death came.
February 9, 1856, she was baptized by Rev. James Summerbell and became a member of the Adams Center, N. Y., Seventh-day Baptist church. She remained a member of that church till she removed to this place and joined the church of her faith here.
"Aunt Lucy" was a quiet, earnest, devoted Christian woman, always in her place in church and in Sabbath school, always ready to testify to the love she had for her God and Savior.
Her health was always good; but a few months ago a cancer began its deadly work, and while it had not caused her much pain yet it was working very rapidly. About a week before the death angel called her home she began to fail, but was not thought to be seriously ill. The morning of her death she seemed better and stronger than she had been for a day or so. Suddenly there came a change for the worse and in only a few minutes her spirit returned to the God who gave it and she became only a memory to those who knew her and loved her.
Funeral services were held at the S. D. B. church Sunday afternoon conducted by pastor Davis. The music was furnished by the high school, and the teachers and the grammar room were given special seats because of her husband's long connection with the school. The bearers were her six great nephews.
