ROTC CAVALRY at The University of Georgia, as a student, graduated in 1942. Applied for and received a commission in U.S. Cavalry as 2nd Lt. From 1942-1944 he was at Fort Riley, Kansas attending Officer's Candidate School. In April, 1944 was promoted to 1st Lt. and attended Field Artillary School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma - August, 1944.

November, 1944 1st Lt. Dempsey was sent to the European Theatre (England, France, and Germany) In Third Army Division with the 16th Calvalry Reconnaissance Squardon and was promoted to Captain in July 1945.

Captain Dempsey returned to U.S.A. in August 1945 and was assigned as commanding officer of Troop A of 16th Cavalry and Assistant Executive officer of Headquarters at Camp Hood, Texas in November 1945.

Captain Alvin Hugh Dempsey requested release from Active Duty in February 1946. He received his Clearance Certificate through Ft. Meade, Maryland Separation Center in March 1946.
