Notes for George BURDICK
About 1799, George Burdick with his wife and son George L., an infant, came from Hopkinton, R. I. to Chenango Co., N. Y. They moved all their household effects there with two yoke of oxen. He cut a trail four miles out of De Ruyter to mark the road through what was then a wilderness. On reaching their destination he felled trees and erected a rude hut, which served as a shelter until his log cabin was built, located about seven miles south od De Ruyter at what was long known as "Burdick Settlement," now Lincklaen. Nov. 15, 1834, he was one of the incorporators of the S. D. B. Church in Burdick Settlement.
