Frank L. Burdick, 78, who at the time of his retirement as director of the Edgerton school bands in 1936 was recognized as one of the oldest directors in the country in point of service, a total of 57 years, died Tuesday morning in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Robson, 1244 Partridge avenue, Beloit. Since the death of his wife in May, 1936, Mr. Burdick lived with the Robsons.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Robson home and burial services will be in Edgerton. Mr. Burdick is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robson, Mrs. Clair Rejahl and Mrs. Charles Haas and a son, Sylvester Burdick, all of Beloit; eight grandchildren; and a brother, C. Rollyn Burdick, Los Angeles, Calif. His wife was formerly Belle Jones, Edgerton, an accomplished musician and teacher. Mrs. Roger G. Cunningham, Janesville, is a niece.
Mr. Burdick was born in Utica, Wis., June 29, 1864. He located in Edgerton in 1893 and was for more than 40 years associated with the musical life of the community. Under his direction the city concert band of Edgerton took first place several times in state competition. Due to Mr. Burdick's outstanding work the city council established an annual appropriation for the band. He also directed bands in Milton, Elkhorn and Milton Junction and during the 80's the Whitewater State Teachers college and Palmyra bands were under Mr. Burdick's direction.

Edgerton – Mrs. Frank L. Burdick, well known musician here and wife of F. L. Burdick, who is just retiring as city and school band master, died in her home at 7 a.m. Friday. She was 65.
Mrs. Burdick, daughter of the late W. F. Jones and Elizabeth Richardson Jones, was born Aug. 27, 1871, at Newville. She was graduated from the local high school in 1890, and then studied music in Madison. For the past 40 years she had taught music in this city, mostly piano. She was a member of the Congregational church, and for many years sang in the choir, and was also a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge.
Survivors are her husband and four children, Sylvester, Mrs. C. D. Rejahl, Mrs. M. W. Robson and Mrs. Charles Haas, all of Beloit, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, Rockford. Five brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held in the Congregational church at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. T. C. Hargreaves officiating. Burial will be in Fassett cemetery.
