Jared Coon 1798-1879
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 35, No 39, p 3, Sep. 25, 1879.
In Alfred, N. Y., Sept. 19th, 1879, Jared Coon, in the 82d year of his age.   He had for many years been a citizen of this town and was honorably connected.   He had also been a decidedly religious man.   His mental organization was, however, peculiar, and at times seemed to lose its balance, and, as is supposed, in one of these fits of aberration, he committed suicide.

In Alfred, N. Y., May 2d, 1869, Esther, wife of Jared Coon, in the 74th year of her age.   Sister coon had suffered much for nearly four years, having for nearly all that time been confined to her house, and much of the time to her bed.   For a time before her death she seemed to her friends to be improving; but on the morning of the day of her death, paralysis seized her, and in a few hours her spirit departed from her.   She was a worthy member of the First Seventh-day Baptist Church of Alfred, and has left behind her the wealth of a good name, earned by a faithful discharge of her many duties, and a patient enduring of her many trials.     N. V. H.
