James was born in Montgomery County VA in 1825.
He was driving cattle when he happened to meet Agnes in Ripley County, IN. The family story is that she was so pretty, he fell in love and stayed to marry her. They were living on a farm outside Danville IL when James died of consumption in 1868. Agnes moved back to Ripley County, then most of the family moved to Newton KY where she died in 1890.
