Vincent D. Burtness, age 80, of Orfordville, died Thur., Dec. 21, 1995 at UW Hospital, Madison. He was born in Spring Valley Township, Dec. 15, 1915, the son of Eddie and Nora Alta (Brunsvold) Burtness. He married Jean McWilliam, in Milton, WI on June 10, 1946.
Vincent was a 1933 graduate of Orfordville High School, a World War II veteran, serving with the 32nd division in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippine Islands. He was a member of the Kenneth S. Wells American Legion Post #209, and the Orfordville Lutheran Church, where he served for many years as a Sunday School Teacher and member of the church council. He farmed in the Orfordville area for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; 1 daughter, Rebecca (Paul) Haggland of Burien, WA; 3 sons, Edwin (Patricia) Burtness and Loren Burtness both of Orfordville, and Raymond Burtness of Brodhead; 3 granddaughters, Deanna Burtness of Orfordville, Catherine and Amanda Haggland both of Burien, WA; 2 grandsons, Jason and Eric Burtness of Orfordville; 2 brothers, Lester (Viola) Burtness and Stanley (Idell) Burtness both of Orfordville; 1 sister, Irene Nelson of Beloit. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Bruce.
Funeral services were held Wed., Dec. 27, 1995, at the Orfordville Lutheran Church. Rev. LaVern Nielsen officiated. Burial was in Orfordville Lutheran Cemetery. Newcomer-Silverthorn Funeral Home, Orfordville, handled arrangements.

ORFORDVILLE- Jean L. (McWilliam) Burtness, 87, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at Collinwood Elderly Care in Orfordville, WI.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1918, in Milton, WI, the daughter of John Erving and Myrtle (Gray) McWilliam. Jean married Vincent Burtness on June 10, 1946, in Milton. Jean graduated from Milton High School in 1936 and from Whitewater Teachers College in 1938. She taught at Haugen School and Dillenbeck and Milton Elementary. She taught quilting classes for a number of years in Orfordville, Brodhead and Albany. She was a member of Orfordville Lutheran Church and was a charter member of Rock Valley Quilters Guild.
Jean is survived by her sons: Edwin (Patricia) and Loren, both of Orfordville, and Raymond of Beloit; her daughter, Rebecca (Paul) Haggland of Burien, WA; granddaughters: Deanna (Scott) Vanderhei and Catherine (Christopher) Zaragoza of Des Moines, WA, and Amanda Haggland of Pullman, WA; grandsons, Jason (Sara) Burtness and Eric Burtness, both of Orfordville; great-grandchildren: Courtnie DeVoe, Ashley Vanderhei, Alex Burtness, and Brennan Zaragoza; sisters, Betty (Roy) Harris of Rhome, TX, and Joyce (George) Stillman of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law: Ruby McWilliam, Idell Burtness, and Irene Nelson; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bruce; sister, Elmina Craw; and brother, Clarence McWilliam.
Friends may call at Newcomer-Silverthorn Chapel On The Hill, Orfordville, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2005. Funeral services will be held at Orfordville Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, with Pastor Robert Vetter officiating. Burial will be in Orfordville Lutheran Cemetery, Orfordville.
