Mrs. Carr Kumlien, 77, 1108 Harmony Circle, Janesville, lifelong area resident, died Sunday, Dec. 20 in Mercy Hospital where she had been a patient since breaking her hip three weeks ago in a fall in the home of her daughter and family, the Donald Stavens, where she has resided for the past two years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 23 from the Albrecht Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Jones, Faith United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park with Jack, Wendell Jr., Rodney, Keith and Kerry Kumlien and Randy Staven, all grandsons, as pallbearers.
The former Ethel Hall, daughter of O. B. and Sarah L. Peabody Hall was born Dec. 15, 1893 at Johnstown Center and was married there June 1, 1911 to Carr Kumlien. The couple farmed in the Johnstown-Milton area until moving to Milton Junction in 1937. Mr. Kumlien died Feb. 23, 1966.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, The Royal Neighbors and the Milton Grange.
Surviving are six sons: Elwin, Wendell, Bruce and Gene all of Milton; Spencer, West Allis and Kendell, Janesville; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Bussewitz, Mt. Kisco, New York and Mrs. Donald (Eunice) Staven, Janesville; 31 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother Albert Hall.

L. Carr Kumlien, 72, life-long area resident, and operator of Kumlien's Bait Shop, died Wednesday evening, Feb. 23, in his home at 112 Rogers St., Milton Junction, following a brief illness.
The son of Prof. Ludwig and Annabel Carr Kumlien, he was born Dec. 6, 1893, in Milton. He was the grandson of Thure Kumlien, nationally known Wisconsin naturalist. He was married to Ethel Hall of Johnstown Center on June 1, 1911, in the Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church. They farmed in the Johnstown-Milton area until 1937 when they moved to Milton Junction. He was employed for several years as caretaker at the Milton Junction graded school before opening the bait shop, which he was operating at the time of his death.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Betty) Bussewitz, Valhalla, N. Y., and Mrs. Donald (Eunice) Staven of Janesville; six sons, Elwin of Milton, Wendell, Bruce and Gene of Milton Junction, Kendall of R. 1, Edgerton, and Spencer of Milwaukee; 31 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, L. L. Kumlien of Sarasota, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Lenore Raukuce of Janesville, and Mrs. Robert Waterman of Milton Junction.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. in the Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton Junction, the Rev. Alvin Briggs, pastor of the Milton Junction Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville.
