Henry Joseph Coon enlisted in the 1st Michigan Engineers & Mechanics, Dec. 28, 1853 and marched with Sherman to the sea, was wounded Feb. 12, 1865 on the banks of the South Edisto River, South Carolina.
Was Discharged at Washington, D.C., June 24,1865. Born in Scriba,Oswego County,New York,and in 1835 moved to Ohio in the Autumn of 1839. lived in Rockport until 16 years of age, near Cleveland,Ohio, lived in Wakeman, Huron county for 2 years. came to Saginaw County,Brady Township, Michigan in 1865
In 1856 moved from Wakeman to Spencer, Lucas County, Ohio in 1853. Than Mich. in 1865 near Owosso, and to Brady in October 1871.
Henry J. Coon was married twice, 1st to Rachel Edgar, of Owosso,Mich. than to Rosina Crissy, of Swanton,Ohio.
Mr. Coon was a keen observer and one given to much thought. His mind was constantly dealing with mental problems. He was a vast storehouse of Historical knowledge about American History from and including the war. He was an active man, accumulated property, was thrifty and able to take care of himself.
Henry and Rosina resided in Brady Township area most of their adult lives. He built the house in 1886 which still stands on the south side of Brady road (M-57) in Brady Township,Saginaw County.
