Charles and Ella spent most of their working lives on a farm in Alexander, North Dakota, but both died in Portage. They had no children, and must have married after 1915, because we have some old postcards dated before that, addressed to Miss Ella Gates, c/o C.E. Gates, Hale, Missouri.
Birth date of 22-Jul-1875 is from Draft Registration Card 1917-1918. We only had the month before finding that. (Roll 1819447)
