Mary Davis was born July 9, 1888, at Axtell, Kansas, to Henry and Celesta Thayer Deland and died April 26, 1988 at the Valley County Nursing Home at the age of 99.
Mary grew up near Beatrice, and moved with the family to Nortonville, KS, when she was 8. She attended school there moving at age 16 to Farnam. On Jan 18, 1907, she married Calvin Davis at Farnam. They moved to Cosmos, OK before moving to a farm in Davis Creek near North Loup. They moved into North Loup in 1943. Calvin died in 1959. Recently Mary moved to the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord. Mary had performed at Popcorn Days in North Loup and at various care homes in the area. She also was a member of the North Loup Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Survivors include a grandson, Roger Davis of Scotia; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Mary was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, six sisters; four brothers and a grandson.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 29, 1988 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church at North Loup with Rev. Kenneth Burdick and Ralph Sawyer officiating. The organist was Jeneane Abel and the soloist was Delores Babcock. Active pallbearers were Bernard Dutcher, Homer Brannon, Ike Babcock, Horace Williams, Arden Davis, Glen Sawyer. Honorary pallbearers were Sheldon Van Horn, Elery King, Victor King, Ira M. Soper. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at North Loup. Memorials are suggested to the Seventh Day Baptist Church or the Children's Memorial Home in Omaha. Ord Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Calvin Edgar Davis, son of A. Judson and Jennie Hurley Davis, was born at Humboldt, Neb., February 28, 1884, and died in the hospital at Ord, Neb., May 26, 1959.
As a young man he joined the Seventh Day Baptist Church at Farnam, Neb. On June 16, 1907, he was united in marriage with Mary A. DeLand at Farnam. In 1914 they moved to North Loup. To them were born two sons, Bert who died in infancy and Donald, who lives at Scotia, Neb. Besides his wife and son, he leaves three brothers and a sister, two grandsons, and many other relatives. Farewell services were conducted by a neighbor, the Rev. Ralph Sawyer, at the M. E. Church in North Loup, and burial was made in Hillside Cemetery. M. G. S.
