Elmo FitzRandolph, of Boulder, died of natural causes Friday, July 7, 2006. He was 92.
The son of Alois Preston FitzRandolph and Jenny Mae Sutton FitzRandolph, he was born Aug. 31, 1913, in Berea, W.Va. He married Madeline Alice Watts in Salem, W.Va., on Sept. 1, 1937. They moved to Boulder from Milton, Wis., in 1965. Mr. Randolph received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Salem College and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Alfred University School of Theology. He was a minister with the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Boulder and worked in the safe deposit department of First National Bank in Boulder. He was president of Kiwanis Club in Milton and director of the Kiwanis Club in Boulder. He also was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, for which he received the Silver Beaver Award, and was president of the Boulder chapter of the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed archery, astronomy and camping. 'He was a great inspiration to his children and all that knew him,' his family said.
Survivors include three sons, Dan FitzRandolph, of Atlanta, John FitzRandolph, of California, and Matthew FitzRandolph, of Boulder; and three daughters, Anne Triguba, of Columbus, Ohio; Catherine Buchanan, of Longmont, and Deb Williams, of Alliance, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, Brady FitzRandolph and Ashby FitzRandolph; and a sister, Avis Swiger.
A funeral service will be a 2 p.m. Wednesday at Boulder Seventh Day Baptist Church. Crist Mortuary, of Boulder, handled arrangements.

Madeline (Watts) Fitz Randolph 1915-2004
Madeline Fitz Randolph died on December 3, 2004, at Manor Care nursing facility in Boulder. She was 89 years old. Madeline Alice Watts was born on May 22, 1919, in Richwood, West Virginia, to John and Etta Watts. She was married to Elmo Fitz Randolph in Fairmont, West Virginia, on September 1, 1937. Madeline and Elmo celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on September 1, 2004. Madeline and Elmo raised six children, all of whom are living: Anne Tribuga; Daniel Fitz Randolph; John FitzRandolph; Deborah Williams; Catherine Buchanan; and Matthew FitzRandolph. Madeline graduated from Fairmont State Teacher's College in 1937 with a B.S. degree in English and Library Science.
Madeline worked as an elementary school librarian in the Boulder Valley Public School District for 19 years, from 1967 to 1986. She served as a librarian in Gold Hill, Jamestown, Burke, and Whittier elementary schools. Madeline founded and directed the first church hand bell choir in Boulder in 1966, the "Boulder Seventh Day Baptist Bell Choir." The 8-member bell choir took a musical tour to Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Madeline also founded a Seventh Day Baptist Youth Bell Choir which was part of the entertainment for a 4th of July celebration at Folsom Field, at the University of Colorado.
Madeline received the Robe of Achievement for Leadership from the Seventh Day Baptist (SDB) Women's Society. She also received the Crystal Apple Award for Sabbath School Teacher of the Year in the SBD denomination. Madeline served on the executive board of the North American Baptist Women, and wrote regular columns for the Sabbath Recorder and the Alfred Sun, in Alfred, New York.
Madeline and Elmo have 11 grandchildren (Zachary & Preston FitzRandolph; Adrianne FitzRandolph; Meg Randolph; Jennifer Halicki; Kuviana Ax; Kristen & Matthew Planer; Erina Calder; Terri Williams, Greg & Mark Triguba; Chris Buchanan) and 11 great-grandchildren (Harrison Halicki; Madeline Planer; Matisse; Judah Lauridsen; Tori & Ellie Calder; Tatiana & Katarina Triguba; Taylor Anne, Lucas & Brice Williams).
