Funeral Services for Mr. Robert "Bob" Fitchett 68, of Farmerville, LA, will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 2, 2004, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville, LA. Rev. Johnny Hankins will officiate. Interment will follow at Natchez National Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 at 1:00 PM.
Mr. Fitchett was a member of Farmerville United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class.
Mr. Fitchett died Monday, November 29, 2004, at his residence in Farmerville, LA.
Mr. Robert retired as a major in 1978 from the Army after 25 years of service. He had three tours in Viet Nam, and was a highly decorated helicopter pilot. After retiring from the Army, Bob, joined the staff at Bartlett High School in Anchorage, Alaska as the senior officer in the JROTC Program. Their unit became an honor unit with distinction and Major Fitchett was able to appoint students to West Point and other military programs.
He retired from the Anchorage School District in 1990. A year later he joined the Bastrop High School Faculty and organized the JROTC Program. He felt his greatest accomplishment was in helping the young people make a difference in their lives. He retired from Bastrop after 10 years of service. He was an AKC judge and raised Bearded Collies. He was a member of the D'Arbonne Kennel Club in Ruston, LA.
Mr. Fitchett is survived by his wife of 20 years, Velda Fitchett of Farmerville, LA; Children: Mike Fitchett and wife Robin of San Diego, CA; Kevin Fitchett and wife Rosemary of Anchorage, AK; Kathleen Michelle Zimmerman and husband C. B. of Little Rock, AR; Michelle Lake and husband Randy of Villa Grove, IL; Stephanie Lecher and husband David of Villa Grove, IL; Stepsons: Reed Callender of Anchorage, AK, and Guy Callender of Lake Claiborne, LA; and fifteen Grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Kent Babb, Carlisle Bridges, Murray Bridges, Guy Callender, Randy Lake, David Lecher, Dave Farrell and Larry Fryday.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday December 1, 2004 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA.

Former Anchorage resident Robert "Bob" Fitchett, 68, died Nov. 29, 2004, at his home in Farmerville, La.
A funeral was Thursday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville. Interment was Friday at Natchez National Cemetery.
Mr. Fitchett was born July 12, 1936, in Vermont.
He was a member of Farmerville United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class.
He retired from the Army as a major in 1978 after 25 years of service, during which he served three tours in Vietnam and was a highly decorated helicopter pilot.
