Wisconsin Land Records - Andrew Gallup - #3206 - 15 Dec 1855 - Juneau County - 80.000 acres - Land office 12 - base line 46; twp 16N; range 3E; section 26 Filed same day as brother Francis'. This land is next door to Andrew's and Francis' claims. 1860 census - Lisbon, Juneau, Wisconsin Household consists of Andrew, Emeline, John B (age 5), Maria (age 3). Harriet C. Gray, age 28, lived with them at the time. She was Emeline's sister and later married Andrew's brother Francis. Andrew's occupation was listed as farmer. Served in the 6th Wisconsin Infantry, Company K, in the Civil War, enlisted on 22 June 1861. He was promoted to Corporal, then Sergeant, then to Captain on 21 December 1864. This unit was part of the Iron Brigade of the West. He was wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness on 6 May 1864, having part of one ear was shot off. He was mustered out on 14 July 1865. Andrew's great-grandson has copy of letter from GAR post in Janesville, Wisconsin to Andrew in La Grange, Brown Co., Illinois dated 1887. On 1900 census, Sharon , Walworth, Wisconsin: Andrew and Emeline reside with George and 2 granddaughters, Myra and Emeline. They are listed as having had 4 children, 4 children still living. Andrew appears in a record of the Iron Brigade Association as living in Sharon in 1904. Lived in La Grange, Brown Co., Illinois in 1909. 'Beloit Daily News', Aug. 11, 1919 Capt. Andrew Gallup, was a native of New York, having been born at Floyd, Oneida County, June 20, 1830. He was the son of Gideon and Betsy Gallup. In Oct. 1853, he was united in marriage to Miss Emiline Gray which union was separated by her death July 29, 1903. To them were born four children: John of Janesville, Wis., Mrs. Myra Boyce of Beloit, Andrew of Poppinsville, Mo., and George of Sharon. Mr. Gallup came west after his marriage settling at Mauston, Wis. It was during his residence there that war was declared between North and South and he was one of the first to enlist. On Feb. 27, 1861, he was made captain of Co. K, Sixth Regiment Wisconsin Infantry. The company on Oct. 5, 1861, joined the Army of Potomac on Arlington Heights. During McClellen's Peninsular campaign his regiment was doing duty around Fredericsburg under the command of McDowell. They were in many of the most important battles of the war including Bull Run and Gettysburg. The deceased was a member in good standing of the Northern Light lodge of Independent Order of Free Masons at Mauston, Wis. For many years he has made his home in the village of Sharon. By trade he was a carpenter and many will recall his faithful service. He was well known in community and universally respected. Besides the members of his immediate family there are fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He has been in failing health for some time and his last illness was due to a general breaking down caused by his advanced age. On the morning of Aug. 7, about 6 o'clock the end came, he being 89 years, one month and twenty-four days old. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the M. E. church, Rev. E. C. Potter officiating. The G. A. R. had charge of the services and the W. R. C. attended in a body. Burial was at Oakwood.
