Funeral services for Mary Thorngate Davis were held Thursday, August 26, at North Loup. Mrs.[?] Davis died August 24, 1993 at the Bethesda Care Center in Edgar. She was 98.
The Rev. Ken Burdick officiated at the Seventh Day Baptist Church. Mrs. Jeneane Abel was organist and Jenny Ryschon was the soloist. Pallbearers were Erlo Cox, Sheldon Van Horn, Cecil Severance, Merlyn Williams, Kenneth Williams and Bernard Dutcher. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery.
Mrs.[?] Davis was born July 17, 1895 in Greeley county near North Loup to Mansell and Mary (Rood) Davis. Her childhood was spent in North Loup where she attended school through the eleventh grade and then graduated from Ord High School. In 1921 she graduated from the University of Nebraska, College of Agriculture, majoring in home economics. In the fall of 1921 she began her teaching career in Exeter, a career which would span some 40 years. She taught at Wahoo, North Loup, Edgar Public High school, at Grady in Logan county, a district school including part of Greeley, Garfield and Valley counties and at Doniphan. In 1947 she moved to Clay Center where she taught for 16 years until her retirement in 1963. After retiring, she remained in Clay Center until she became a resident of the Bethesda Care Center in Edgar where she lived until her death.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church since 1909.
She was active in the Order of Eastern Star Lodge No. 70 of Harvard and Clay Center, P.E.O. Chapter T of Clay Center and Delta Kappa Gamma teaching sorority, Omicron Chapter of Fillmore and Clay counties.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Horace and Ainslie.
