Charles Thomas Buten was born in Berlin, N. Y., June 1, 1831, and died near Nortonville, Kas., August 2, 1899, after a brief illness.
He had been in poor health for several years, suffering from partial paralysis. He came to Kansas in 1857. In March, 1862, he was married to Miss Marcia Cushman, who walked with him in the journey of life until she went to her reward in January, 1893. Bro. Buten accepted Christ as his personal Saviour, and united with the Seventh-day Baptist church at Berlin, N. Y., in 1847, where his membership was still held at the time of his death. He left one daughter and two sisters, and numerous other relatives and many friends, to mourn his departure. G. W. H.
