In Berlin, Wis., June 22d, 1874, of consumption, Mrs. Amanda Gilbert, widow of the late Nathan Gilbert, in the 70th year of her age.
Sister Gilbert embraced religion in early life, and had long been a faithful follower of Christ.   She had held membership in the Pinckney Church and in the Independent Church of Adams, N. Y.   Falling in with the tide of emigration, she, with her husband, came to Berlin a few years since, and united with the Seventh-day Baptist Church of this place, of which she remained a member until death severed her connection with the church militant to join the church triumphant.
Visiting her, as pastor, during her last sickness, it was cheering to hear her express her confidence in the precious promises of God, saying that she could hardly wait for the change to come, although she would be submissive to the dealings of God with her.   Such is the peaceful and happy death of the Christian.
The writer being absent, attending the North-Western Association, at the time of her death, her funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. Mr. Page, Baptist minister of Berlin City.     H. B. L.
