In New Milton, Doddridge Co., W. Va., March 22d, 1875, of puerperal fever, Mrs. Margaret J. Davis, wife of Wm. H. H. Davis, aged 30 years.   Sister Davis embraced religion in early life and joined the Methodist Church.   In the year 1963, she was married to W. H. H. Davis.   Some time after the war, she, with her husband, moved to Doddridge county.   She embraced the Sabbath, was baptized by Eld. W. B. Gillette, and joined the Middle Island Church.
Thus another name is added to those who are gone, but not forgotten.   Genial of manner, and of pleasing address, Sister Davis, in the church and out of it, had many friends.   She met responsibilities cheerfully; and was widely known and honored for her efficiency in whatever duty she was called to perform.   The church, in her death, has met with a great loss, and her family with a sad bereavement, in which the community deeply sympathize.
A few weeks before her death, she had a dream, and told some of her friends she would not get well.   In her last sickness, she was attended by two of the best physicians of the county.   Just before she passed away, the dawn of spiritual life unfolded into the broad light of Christian faith and confidence.   She said to the writer, "Yes, I am ready; all is well."   Death lost its sting and the grave its victory.
We part with her in sorrow, but look forward with hope to a happy meeting in heaven.   Her husband, in his affliction, and her children, left without a mother's care, have our prayers, that when Christ shall gather up his jewels, they may all meet her in heaven.   Her funeral was attended, Match 23d; prayer was offered at the house by J. M. Roberson of the Methodist Church.   A large concourse of weeping friends followed her to the grave, when Dr. A. Bee, of Middle Island, made some very appropriate remarks.   "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord."     J. B. D.
