Ira E. Bond, 88 years old of Nortonville, KS. died Thursday, November 15, 2007 at the Winchester Geriatric Center, Winchester, KS.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday (Sabbath), Nov. 17, 2007 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church with Rev. Stephan Saunders officiating. The body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical School, Kansas City, KS. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. The O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville is entrusted with the services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Seventh Day Baptist Church or the Nortonville Library Fund in care of the funeral home. Mr. Bond was born on December 4, 1918 in Nortonville, the third child of Clifford G. and Sarah Alena (Maxson) Bond. Ira was educated in the Nortonville public schools, graduating from Nortonville High School in 1938. He sang tenor in male quartets, in school, church and for funerals. Mr. Bond had worked as a machinist for the former L.F.M. Foundry, Atchison, and later as an electrician for the University of Kansas, Lawrence. He was a devout member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church, Nortonville, a member of the C.C.C. (Civil Conservation Corp), of Kansas City, MO, and he especially enjoyed reading, tinkering and puttering, fixing anything he could find with his special talents.
Mr. Bond was first married to Alice Floreen DeLand, on August 8, 1942 in Nortonville. She preceded him in death on December 25, 1989, in Winchester. He was later married to Barbara Jean Fast on November 10, 1990 in Eldorado Springs, MO. She preceded him in death on January 1, 1998 in Nevada, MO. Ira was married to Darlene Marie Smith on July 4, 1998 in Nortonville. Mrs. Bond survives of the home in Nortonville. Additional survivors include a son, Clifford L. (Carol) Bond, Topeka; two daughters, Irene F. (Stephan) Saunders, Nortonville, and Flosi (Chuck) Cornelison, Mission, KS; four step-sons, Craig (Maria) Smith, Cave Springs, AR, Jerry (Susan) Smith, St. Joseph, MO, Scott (Phyllis) Smith, Lexington, SC, and Kirk (Jamie) Smith, Lexington, MO; a brother; W. Allen Bond, Marion, IA; nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Mr. Bond was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Clay; a brother, Gerald Bond; and a sister, Alma E. McClure.
