Mrs. Paul C. Saunders, nee Leah Clerke, died on July 7, 1984, in Lakeland, Fla., where her daughter, Constance Quirck, had been caring for her the last two years. She was born October 24, 1899, in Spring Valley, N.Y., the daughter of Paul and Anna L. Johnson Clerke.
A family funeral service was held in Lakeland, and a memorial service will be held in Alfred at a later time. Burial of her ashes in the Alfred Rural Cemetery will be beside the grave of her first husband, A. Burdet Crofoot.
Mrs. Saunders was a member of the Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church and of several community organizations where she was serving her community until recently. Most of her adult life was spent in Alfred. She graduated from Alfred University in 1921 and married Mr. Crofoot in 1923. To them were born three daughters, Patricia Anne (Mrs. Robert Turnbull) of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Constance Louise (Mrs. John Quirck) of Lakeland, and Leah Camille (Mrs. Stanley Harris) of Greenville, N.C.
Mr. Crofoot died in 1955 after a career of college teaching and a short term of church administration cutoff by his sudden death. His wife married Paul C. Saunders of Alfred in 1965. Mr. Saunders died in 1975.
Besides the three surviving daughters, she leaves 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. DSC

Alfred Burdet, son of Rev. Jay W. and Hannah Larkin Crofoot, was born in Shanghai, China, Nov. 20, 1899, while his parents were missionaries there, and died unexpectedly at Bethesda Hospital, North Hornell, N. Y., Nov. 13, 1955.
He was married to Leah Clerke of Spring Valley, N. Y., a classmate at Alfred University, April 21, 1924, by Rev. H. Eugene Davis. Three daughters were born to this union: Patricia (Mrs. Robert Turnbull), Poughkeepsie, N. Y.; Constance (Mrs. John Quirk), Haddonfield, N. J.; and Leah Camille, Alfred, N. Y.
Mr. Crofoot's first church membership was in the Shanghai Church where he was baptized by Rev. D. H. Davis. He joined the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Alfred in 1939, by letter from the Plainfield, N. J., Church.
Mr. Crofoot was appointed Executive Secretary of the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference in April, 1953. A proof of his effective and indispensable service has been found as the Commission of General Conference has tried to apportion the work of his office to several individuals until the Commission's midyear meeting.
There survive, besides his widow and daughters, his father of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a sister, Anna (Mrs. L. Harrison North), Plainfield, N. J.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services were conducted from the First Alfred Church, Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 15, by his pastor, Rev. Hurley S. Warren. During the service the School of Theology Sextet sang. Committal services, following cremation, will be held at a later date. H. S. W.
