Notes for Barney CRANDALL
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 25, No 11, p 43, Mar. 11, 1869.
In Independence, N. Y., Feb. 23d, 1869, Barney Crandall, in the 64th year of his age. Bro. Crandall had an attack of paralysis two years last June, which disabled him for the active duties of life, but did not prevent him from visiting friends and attending church. At midnight, Fed. 22d, he had another attack, which soon bereft him of reason and the power of speech. He lingered until six o'clock next evening, and then went to his rest.
For many years he was a successful teacher of vocal music, and one of the best leaders in church music we were ever acquainted with. It was his best mode to serve his God. It was his last effort, to praise his Redeemer in a hymn known only to himself and his God, after the power of speech was nearly gone.
For more than thirty years he had been an earnest member of the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Independence, and we feel sad when we remember that he has gone from us, and we shall hear his voice no more on earth. He has left a wife, children, and a large circle of friends.
Notes for Eliza (Spouse 1)
"The Sabbath Recorder", Vol 47, No 13, p 208, Mar. 26, 1891.
In Andover, N. Y., March 17, 1891, Mrs. Eliza Warren Crandall, widow of the late Barney Crandall, aged 84 years.
She was the ninth, and last to fall in death, of a family of eleven children, - ten daughters and one son. She was married 64 years ago, and has walked the last 22 years in the loneliness of widowhood. She leaves four daughters, all happily married, and living within one hour's drive of the place where she died.
She made a profession of religion some 50 years since, in the ordinance of Christian baptism, administered by the late Eld. Stillman Coon, and united with the Seventh-day Baptist Church of Independence, of which she remained a worthy member until released for union with the church above. She was a sweet spirited Christian, and has left the legacy of a good example to all who knew her; and to her numerous kindred and friends, the assurance, that their loss is her gain. "To die is gain." J. C.
