Travel about 1 mile, staying to the left, to where two logging roads intersect. Look to the left and find an old grown up road at 135 degrees. Follow the old road about 200 feet and the lone headstone will be on the left. I'm not positive this is the correct Mary but there is a Dave Ferguson & wife Jane living next door and that would be her son if this is the correct one. So, I am pretty sure it is correct. Apparently David Manson has died. On the other side of Dave is Henry Clay Ferguson & family, then John Jackson Ferguson & family.

These three are living in dwelling #432. Next door in #431 is John J. (who I believe is Oscar's brother, John Jackson Ferguson) and next to John, in dwelling #430, is Jas. A. (James Alexander) another brother of Oscar's. In dwelling #433 is a Jackson D. Ferguson but don't know who he is. All of these people are wood cutter's.
Ferguson Austin may be a child of Richard Austin and Johanna Ferguson, daughter of John E. Ferguson. Andrew J. is probably our Andrew Jackson Ferguson but obviously not Oscar's son. This definitely ties Andrew in with this family, but the relationship remains unclear. He may be a son of William's or a grandson of an unknown son of William's or some other relation. my current guess is that he is the son of David Ferguson, son of John E. Ferguson. This David married Fanny Austin (or Alston) who I believe is related to Richard Austin. All this is speculation on my part. (Above notes came from Stephen Fox, written Oct. 2001)

Raymond was ordained a minister in the Seventh-day Adventist church in 1930 and held pastorates too many to enumerate, but including San Bernardino, CA; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO. He spent three years (1946-49) as a field secretary of the Southern California Conference of SDA, headquartered at 3131 Pasadena Ave in Los Angeles. He moved to Oregon after Melissa's untimely death from Lou Gehrig's disease in 1949. He was pastor in Klamath Falls, Springfield and Astoria. The Astoria weather exacerbated his arthritis, so he retired, spent a few months in Sacramento CA as a Psych Aide at Folsom Prison [which work he didn't like, couldn't handle the nasty language!]. His arthritis got better in the hot, dry climate. After the dissolution of a very unfortunate marriage to a woman name Jessie { She left him for a doctor.} He married Della[Mohr] Berry in Phoenix abt 1960. She is still living (1996). He re-entered full time ministry in Arizona and was pastor of several churches, Patagonia and Wickenburg included. Finally he and Della moved to a home near Tulsa where he died in 1983.
Sallie came to Yoakum County after her husband settled here. Mother, Maggie (a babe in arms) and I came by train to Big Springs to be with dad then on the Lamesa by hack. I recall this trip by hack as mother was scared to death because the driver was a rough looking man and the ride was very rough. My mother was a workaholic.

I remember my grandmother as the most loving person. She was always singing and working. Her hands were never idle. If she wasn't cooking or canning she was sewing clothes for her granddaughters, quilting or some kind of hand work. She loved to have all her children over to eat. At Christmas I can remember her cooking cakes days before the big event. Christmas was a very big event. The tree would touch the ceiling and only adults were allowed to decorate it. By Christmas Eve, the tree would be surrounded by gifts, because she gave a gift to everyone in the family. What a feast we would have on Christmas day. After all big meals there would be card games. Usually the loser would have to wash dishes, but sometimes she would change the rules. She loved to travel. She would shop until the stores closed. There was never a time you couldn't find food to eat at her house.
Sallie died at Plains Nursing Home at 12:30 pm Feb. 4 1970, services were at Plains First Baptist at 2:30 pm Feb. 6, 1970.
Bill moved to Yoakum County in early 1900. He taught school in extreme northeast part of the county. At times during the early years he drilled water wells in the summer and taught country schools in the winter. He farmed one year (1909), a few miles east of the old postoffice, store and school called Sligo. He was appointed the mail route from Seminole, TX to Sligo, and on to Plains. I think my father was one of the kindest, most honest and smartest man I ever knew.
When he passed away the funeral was the largest held in Plains to that time. Some automobiles in the procession were still leaving town when the first of them was driving in the cemetery a half-mile away. One man walked 14 miles to attend the funeral.

I remember granddad walking home for lunch each day. He would rest on the sofa after lunch and when he left to return to work we always found nickles. I remember him as being a small, quiet man.
Bill was elected County Clerk of Yoakum County and served for 26 years.

Obituary - Lois Mae Farrish
ACWORTH, Ga. - Services for Lois Mae Farrish, 86 of Acworth, who died of heart failure on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005 in her residence, will be 1 p.m. Monday at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona.
Mrs. Farrish was a retired business owner and homemaker.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Belmont, where she taught Sunday School.
A former member of Vaiden Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and church training classes for many years. She served as church clerk and was active in the Women's Missionary Union and served on many church committees.
Mrs. Farrish was a member of the Carroll County Home Demonstration Club for many years and served in various leadership roles.
She also served as a county election commissioner for a number of years.
Her husband, Julius E. Farrish, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice White of Acworth and Brenda Robinson of Belmont; three grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Leon Holly and the Rev. Harvey Overstreet will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the Winona Garden of Memory.
Pallbearers will be Erik Robinson, Jeff White, Doug Freeman, James Freeman, Trevor Freeman, Steve White, Billy Joe Ferguson and James Ferguson.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Vaiden Baptist Church, Vaiden, MS 39176.

Samuel graduated from Newport News High School in 1945. He was class president all three years he was there. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949, then went on to get his law degree there also.
