Johann Christoph Rödiger


JOHANN CHRISTOPH RÖDIGER, son of Johann Heinrich Rödiger, was born about 1769, probably in Nebra, Sachsen. (He was described at his marriage as the only son of the late Johann Heinrich Rödiger, Bürger and Einwohner of Nebra.) He died 2 Jan 1835 at 11 p.m. in Schafstädt, Sachsen, age 66, and was buried there 6 Jan. On his death record he was called "Meister Friedrich Christoph Rödger, Bürger, Einwohner, and also Obermeister of the wool cloth and linenweavers of this place." He died of old age. He was survived by "the widow and 2 adult sons."

He married, for the first and only time, in Schafstädt, 5 Jun 1791, JOHANNA CHRISTIANA BÖHME, who was born in Schafstädt, 4 Mar 1767. She died there 8 Apr 1839 at 12 noon, and was buried 11 Apr. She was the daughter of Christian Gottfried Böhme and Christiana Friederike Meißner. On her death record, she was called "Frau Johanna Maria, widow of Meister Christoph Rödger, former Bürger, Einwohner and linenweaver of this place." Her age was given as 73, the cause of death was old age. She was survived by "two adult sons."

1. JOHANNA CHRISTIANA RÖDIGER, born about 1791; possibly baptized in Nebra, since there is no baptismal record in Schafstädt; confirmed in Schafstädt in 1806; died in Schafstädt 10 Aug 1807, "1st child of the first marriage, only daughter, age 16"; buried 11 Aug 1807.

JOHANN GOTTFRIED RÖDIGER, born 28 Feb 1794 in Schafstädt, baptized there 2 Mar; godparents: Johann Gottfried Böhme, Bürger and Einwohner of this place, Meister Rödigers father-in-law; Frau Maria Dorothea Schlegelin, wife of Johann Christian Schlegel, Bürger and Einwohner of this place; Meister Georg Heimbach, carpenter of Nebra; died 15 Mar 1794 in Schafstädt, age 16 days; buried there 18 Mar 1794.

3. JOHANN FRIEDRICH CHRISTOPH RÖDIGER, born 22 Nov 1796 in Schafstädt; baptized there 24 Nov; godparents: Herr Johann Andreas Hochheim, distinguished ("angesehener") Bürger and Einwohner of this place; Frau Maria Sophia Herrin, wife of Herr Christian Andreas Herr, Bürger and Einwohner, city treasurer of this place; Herr Johann Ehrenfried Fischer, Bürger, Einwohner, and innkeeper of the "Goldene Sonne" (Golden Sun) of this place. He was confirmed in Schafstädt in 1809, as "Friedrich Christoph Rödiger.

He married 4 May 1826 in Schafstädt, ROSINA MARIA DRESSLER, "3rd daughter of Meister Christian Gottlieb Dressler, Bürger and Einwohner and also master turner of Schafstädt, age 30." She was born in Schafstädt 15 Feb 1795 and baptized there 17 Feb, daughter of Christian Gottlieb and Maria Dorothea (Stöber) Dressler. Her father was described on her baptismal record as a master turner and mason ("Meister Drechsler und Maurer"). Johann Friedrich Christoph Rödiger was referred to on his marriage record as "Meister Johann Friedrich Rödiger, Bürger, wool and linenweaver of Schafstädt, eldest son of Meister Johann Christoph Rödiger, Bürger and Obermeister of the wool and linenweavers' guild of Schafstädt, age 30."

He appeared in the records as follows:

JOHANN FRIEDRICH AUGUST RÖDIGER, born 29 May 1800 at 3 a.m. in Schafstädt; baptized there 30 May; godparents: Meister Johann August Herzau, Bürger and wool and linenweaver of this place; Frau Maria Elisabeth Finkin, wife of Meister Christian Gottfried Fink, Bürger and Einwohner and also wagoner of this place; Friedrich Gottlob Detring, Bürger and shoemaker of this place; married 23 Aug 1829 in Bündorf, JOHANNE MARIE TROMMER.

5. JOHANNE HENRIETTE RÖDIGER, born 20 Sep 1807 at 5 p.m. in Schafstädt, "5th child"; baptized there the same day; godparents: Frau Johanna Maria Strichin, wife of Meister Friedrich August Strich, Bürger and master judge ("Gerichtsmeister") of this place; Frau Eleonore Henriette, widow of Herr Meister Carl Friedrich Jahn; Meister Carl Friedrich Trabe?, son of Meister Visels Johann Gottlob Kisschnes, Rasionair? from Niclit?; died 25 Sep 1807 at Schafstädt, age 4 days, "5th child of the first marriage"; buried 27 Sep 1807.

JOHANN CHRISTIAN RÖDIGER, born 11 Aug 1810 at 7 a.m. in Schafstädt, "6th child of the 1st marriage"; baptized there 12 Aug; godparents: Frau Christiana Dorothea, wife of Herr Andreas Christian Gromm, Bürger and also "Sch...rens" of this place; Meister Christian Gottfried Bruckner, Bürger and linenweaver of this place; Meister Friedrich Christoph Kohl, proprietor of the Mark Windmill; died in Schafstädt, 12 Aug 1823, age 14, "Johann Friedrich Christian Rödiger"; buried 14 Aug 1823.
