Christoph Trommer 1

Christoph Trommer 1

CHRISTOPH TROMMER was born, perhaps in Gröst, Sachsen, on 7 May 1714 (by subtraction of his age at death from his date of death).

He resided in Zscherben, Sachsen, from just after his first marriage until his death, which occurred in Zscherben on 20 Feb 1763 at 3 a.m.: "Christoph Trommer, Nachbar and Einwohner in Zscherben, age 48 years, 9 months, 2 weeks." He was buried in Zscherben on 22 Feb 1763.

Note that this Zscherben is located just southwest of Merseburg -- the church books are today kept at the parish church of Kötzschen. This is not the somewhat larger village of Zscherben, which is located a few miles southwest of Halle.

On his first marriage record (to Anna Schlaaff), he is described as Christoph Trommer of Griest, "someter der land miliz" located (serving in the militia?) and up to the present in Roßbach serving at the Eikhoffe. Since Roßbach and Gröst are just south of Zscherben, this is evidently where he was from -- the baptism of his eldest son Christoph is probably to be found in one of these villages.

In 1744 is recorded in Zscherben the baptism of an illegitimate child to Maria Trommer, daughter of the late Hans Trommer, former Nachbar and Einwohner of Griest. The father was Michael Krantz, a "Chur Sächse Reuter" (military rank? of Saxony). The godparents were: Balthasar Weißhas, Juv. of Zscherben; Hans David Raabe, laborer and Einwohner in Zscherben; and Maria Christina, youngest daughter of Hans Michael Horre, journeyman carpenter and Einwohner in Zscherben. It seems possible that she was a sister of Christoph, and that Christoph also was a son of Hans Trommer of Griest (probably = Gröst).

In 1740 at the baptism of his first recorded child, Christoph was referred to as "Einwohner and Handarbeiter" (laborer). On all later records, he was referred to as Nachbar and Einwohner in Zscherben. He married first, 22 Jul 1737 at Zscherben, ANNA SCHLAAFF, "eldest daughter of Hans Schlaaff of Zscherben." She was born 9 Jan 1707 (by subtraction), daughter of Johann Schlaaff and Anna Sultzen of Zscherben. She died at Zscherben 20 Jun 1748 and was buried there 22 Jun: "Frau Anna, wife of Christoph Trommer, Nachbar and Einwohner of Zscherben, age 41 years, 5 months and 11 days."

Christoph married second, 20 May 1749 at Zscherben, MARIA WEBER, "youngest daughter of the late Christoph Weber, former Nachbar and Einwohner, also gerichtsschöppe (juror) in Runstadt." She was referred to on the baptisms of both her children as Maria born Weber of Runstadt. She died in Zscherben 17 Jan 1762 at 4 p.m.: "Frau Maria born Weber, wife of Christoph Trommer, Nachbar and Einwohner, age 40 years, 6 months, 3 weeks."

Christoph married third, 10 Jul 1762 at Zscherben, ANNA MARIA HERMANN, "daughter of the late Andreas Herman, Nachbar and Einwohner in Gross Keyna." Christoph died only 7 months later.

Anna Maria survived her husband and married second, 25 Nov 1766 in Zscherben, CHRISTIAN KNABE, a widower, Nachbar and Einwohner of Zscherben. On the marriage, she was described as "Frau Anna Maria born Hermann, widow of the late Christoph Trommer, Nachbar and Einwohner in Zscherben."
