He was perhaps the Francis Ball who married ANN ___ by 1790, father of Sarah Ball who was baptized at St. Mary's on 12 Dec 1790. This could be the same Sarah Ball who married James Nicholson -- according to her family Bible, this Sarah was born at Nottingham, 22 May 1790, and her father's name was known to be Francis (from her marriage record). The 1790 baptism is the only possibility that matches these two known facts.
This may or may not be the same Francis and Ann Ball who had four children baptized at Radford, Notts. (a suburb of Nottingham) on 28 Oct 1804 (their birth dates were recorded on the baptismal record, as indicated below, and ranged from 1795 to 1804). They had three more children baptized there between 1806 and 1808. While the names are fairly common, they are very consistent with the children of the above-indicated William Ball and Mary Dance. (William and Mary's children's names were Mary, Francis, William, Alice, George and Sarah.)
The only marriage of a man named Francis Ball to a woman named Ann that I have so far found, whose dates in any way match these, is the marriage of Francis Ball and Ann Roe that took place at South Normanton, Derbyshire (about 12 miles from Nottingham) on 23 Sep 1790. Both were described as "of this parish." If this date is correct, however, Sarah would have been born several months before the marriage, although the baptism took place after the marriage. There was also a baptism in South Normanton to Francis and Ann Ball -- a daughter Catherine, baptized 7 Apr 1793. This fits between the Nottingham baptism of Sarah and the Radford baptisms listed below, so, unfortunately, any combination of these could possibly be children of the same parents. Note also that there was a Francis Ball baptized in South Normanton, 3 Aug 1760, the illegitimate son of Hannah Ball.
At present, this ancestry can't be considered certain.
